The Scholastic Book Fair is coming! What better way to kick off summer reading?
Your child(ren) will be visiting the fair next week to create a wishlist and will have the opportunity to make purchases the following week of May 12-15 during their library class time. Parents are able to visit and purchase items anytime during that week as well from 7:30am-4pm. More information about the fair is available our site: https://bookfairs.scholastic.com/bf/gesorg
All funds help us to purchase more books and supplies for the library and your support is greatly appreciated!
Please contact me if you have any questions or if I can help in any way!

Delicious adventures await as our talented students perform Willy Wonka Kids this afternoon at 2:00 at GES, followed by an evening performance tonight! The show begins at 6:00 PM, with doors opening at 5:30 PM for a room full of sweets and treats!

As part of pioneer week at GES, guest speakers (the Driewer Family - whose kids went to GES), share their expertise on quilt making. Quilt making was an integral part of the pioneers livelihood and a true art. As part of the presentation, kids will be making their own paper quilt square which will be part of a larger paper quilt put together!

Last week, 4th grade learned about how different cultures around the world eat a variety of foods for protein and to keep them healthy. Crickets are a speciality to eat in many countries. On Monday morning, Mrs. Dickes and Mr. Vos's 4th graders tried something new - BBQ grasshoppers. 🫣 Mrs. Dickes said they'd go better for a pop rather then her daily coffee! Way to be brave Mrs. Dickes and 4th graders in trying something new! 😀

Jessie put hours of time into her Wonka masterpiece to share the news of our Willy Wonka Kids musical at 2 and 6pm on Thursday, May 1st!

GES’s very first clay paper airplane and second and first place winners for the Gretna Arbor Society’s poster contest and creating keychains and magnets to support next year’s musical! All of the kids’ hard work is bringing the school to life with colorful creations!

After the show, enjoy Hoagie's Hawaiian Ice behind the school. They will be donating 15% of their sales to the musical fund!
The PTO has also put together an online auction. The auction opens today and ends April 29th. Our goal is to raise $500, with all funds going towards the 2026 musical. They are auctioning 3 reserved seating packages of four seats each (12 seats total) and 2 reserved parking spaces. Also online, you have the option to give a one-time free will donation.

We'd like to thank Author Jerry Pallotta for visiting us yesterday and sharing all about his life and his career being an author. The kids absolutely LOVED him!

🚒👨🚒 The Gretna Elementary Preschool classes took a special walking field trip to the Gretna Fire House Museum this week! The students had a great day meeting the Gretna firefighters, exploring a fire truck and an ambulance up close, and learning all about the important work our local heroes do to keep our community safe.
A big thank you to the Gretna Fire Department for taking the time to meet with us and making this experience so memorable!

The Gretna Elementary staff would like to thank the Gretna Elementary PTO along with all of our parents who helped make Teacher Appreciation Week so great!!

Join us at GES on Thursday, May 1st for our Willy Wonka musical!

For more than 15 years, Gretna Public Schools' third graders have participated in a one-of-a-kind tradition: a history tour of Old Gretna led by the Superintendent. From the original jail and blacksmith shop to the first schoolhouse site, students explore key pieces of the town’s past while gaining pride in their community.

Local author and Nebraskaland editor, Jeff Kurrus visited the 4th grade this past week and asked them for feedback on his new book, The Legend of Donnie Bats. Students got a sneak peek of the new chapter book coming out in early May and Jeff provided insights on the in's and out's of being an author as well as sharing his thoughts throughout the writing process for his new endeavor. Thanks, Jeff for coming to share your time and talents with our 4th graders at GES!
