The Gretna Public School District Board of Education has once again been recognized for its outstanding leadership, receiving the President’s Board Award from the Nebraska Association of School Boards. This year’s honor marks the Board’s 22nd consecutive award and 30th overall since 1994, a milestone that reflects decades of dedication to students, staff, and the Gretna community.

“Our school board is committed to making decisions that put students first,” said Superintendent Travis Lightle. “This award is a testament to their hard work, vision, and ongoing commitment to excellence.”

Board members Rick Hollendieck, President (Level IX, 17 years of service); Kyle Janssen, Vice President (Level VI, 9 years); Dawn Stock, Secretary (Level VIII, 13 years); Mark Hauptman, Treasurer (Level VI, 7 years); Greg Beach (Level IV, 3 years); and Blake Turpen (Level III, 3 years) have worked together to guide the district with dedication, ensuring every policy, budget, and initiative supports student success.

The President’s Board Award is the highest honor a school board can earn in Nebraska. It recognizes boards that actively participate in professional development and leadership programs. Gretna’s consistent recognition shows the Board’s commitment to learning, growth, and putting best practices into action.

Beyond the award, the Board’s leadership strengthens the entire community. Their thoughtful decision-making creates an environment where students can thrive academically and socially, while families and residents can trust that the district is in capable hands.

This continued recognition is not just about accolades. It is about the heart and dedication of local leaders who work tirelessly for the students and families of Gretna.
