Students from Aspen and Giles Creek Middle Schools’ high-needs classrooms recently enjoyed a special field trip to Lauritzen Gardens. For many of these students, such experiences are rare due to their individual needs, making the outing especially meaningful.

The two schools share a close partnership, and their students have formed strong connections through joint activities. During the trip, students interacted with one another, built friendships, and used their AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication) devices to communicate in a real-world setting.

Because the schools are located near each other, students traveled together by car and van, making the trip both convenient and fun. Teachers and staff were proud to watch students demonstrate their social and life skills in the community.

“We are so excited to plan more shared experiences this year and hope to include even more Gretna high-needs classrooms in the future,” said Carrie Keating, MS Special Education Teacher.
